‘HEALD HOUSE’ HISTORY
Over the entry porch a plaque bears the legend ‘S.A.M. 1706’. This signifies when the original dwelling was renovated and remodelled for Andrew and Mary Stone whose father was the vicar of Leyland from 1689-1712. Staircases, oak panelling and much of the decorative woodwork in the house were reclaimed from ships, including Nelson’s flagship ‘The Foudroyant’ salvaged during the period. In early Victorian days the house was put to use as a girl’s boarding school. The early 1900’s saw a double storey extension of bay windows added by Mr George Gregson, who was land agent for the Derby estate for some 35 years.
