The Property Scene Removals Guide

Top Tips

Making sure you have a trustworthy and reliable moving company can make your whole relocation go a lot smoother. The first thing you should ask yourself is what kind of services you are going to need when moving. A removal company or man in a van are likely to be a priority, but do you also need packing services or perhaps storage? Knowing what you need before you start looking will immediately narrow down the search for you and rule out certain options that can be forgotten about.

If you are moving locally, then generally speaking a man in a van or smaller removal company might suit you better. You probably won’t get the full value for money from a national removal firm, as they tend to charge by the day, whereas smaller companies or one man van drivers might be more flexible, usually charging by the hour.

On the other hand, a long distance move will probably be better served by hiring a larger removal company. You will generally get better value especially if you think your move will take over a day to complete. Also, many larger companies offer their own in house storage and packing services too, which means you may be able to take advantage of bundle deals, or at the very least simply make one payment to one company, which can make dealing with the finances of your move a lot less hassle.

Before you start searching the internet or local telephone directories, try asking around your friends family and work colleagues. Someone may know a good moving company or man in a van, and you can get a trusted opinion about their service and price. Many of the best man in van drivers build their reputation on word of mouth, so this is especially applicable if you are looking for a man in a van in particular.

Once you have found a couple of companies that fit your requirements, you should start calling around and getting some quotes. This can be especially useful if you are a first time mover, as it will give you a good idea of what you should be expecting to pay. You can also use the opportunity to ask any questions to a member of the company, or relay special instructions for the handling of certain goods, and so on. Once you have a few quotes, you can then make your decision based on which service is going to offer you the best value for money.
